Light 'Em Up was founded in August of 2000. As avid duners, we noticed that vendors at the dunes mostly sold T-Shirts and not much of anything else. We did our research and had the idea to sell accessories and other items that people needed out in the desert. We focused our sales at Gordon's Well since it is more of a "family" place where our little girl Makayla and our other kids Kyle and Erica could ride and play safely.
We started out selling Whips, Whip Lights and Custom Flags under a 10x10 tent out at Gordon's Well. After our first outing on Halloween of 2000, we got a great deal of feedback from everyone out there telling us about items they needed and what they would like to see. So each time we went out we would take notes, get feedback and start carrying some additional items the people wanted. Needless to say, this list grew quickly. We joined up with Shade Tree, who makes event T-Shirts, and started selling together. As we grew and added more items to our product line, our booth grew as well...
Because our product line has expanded, the name "Light 'Em Up" didn't reflect the products and services that we provided. So in 2002, we created Sandsational Dune Gear and Apparel. The name says it all. We purchased a 45' Semi-Trailer and retrofitted it to stock our product at the dunes and provide essential items needed to service our customers. We added several apparel lines, greatly expanded our product lines and started providing services for tire repair, whip and light installation, and general help when people had broken toys, got injured or lost.
We currently carry over 1000 products and provide a much needed service to the desert community. We are Contributing Sponsors for the South Dunes Cleanup, Christian High School Boosters and the El Cajon High School Boosters. We provide giveaway items for the Sand Sports Show, Off Road Expo, SDORC Expo, Extreme Sports Expo and others. We are also Contributing Members and Supporters of the American Sand Association (ASA), Off Road Business Association (ORBA), San Diego Off Road Coalition (SDORC), California Off Road Vehicle Assiciation (CORVA) and Friend of Oceano Dunes.
This year we will be teaming up with a food vendor at Gordon's Well and adding a booth at Buttercup. We look forward to a safe and wonderful 2005-2006 Dune Season. |
